UlsterWay–9

Strangford to Saul via Castle Ward - 18th August 2026

The Ulster Way now proceeds across the water to Portaferry and then spends twenty or so miles subjecting you to the busy main road up the coast. This is quoted as a "connected section" by which they mean take the bus and look at it from the window. Christ! I suspect there was a dearth of walkers on that committee! Instead, I am following an amalgam of the old path and the Lecale Way which follows it - mostly. Starts with tracing the border of Castle Ward before heading across the hills to Saul. Weather overcast and threatening rain.

A rather nice trek today. Woods and forest tracks by the lough, a necessary bit of tarmac up the hills and somewhere for a refresh at the end - lovely.
