Saul to Ringdufferin via Killyleagh - 24th August 2026
Still stubbornly sticking to the old route of the Ulster Way around Strangford Lough, I am, today, moving on up the western coast to Ringdufferin. This was mostly a day of tarmac and the traffic is considerably greater than when I first did this almost thirty years ago. Despite that, I feel this is the best route and, though on main roads for a few hours, way better than the two days of main road I'd have to do if I stuck to the new route on the east coast. The weather was lovely, sunny and warm pushing 20 degrees.
Struggling with the old EIV and trying out different socks and stuff, none of which seem to work. This is very bad and will form a limit on the number of hours I can manage in a day. But, though I haven't yet found an answer, I will keep looking.
Today was very nice though I was flagging with the heat near the end and nearly struck by the many yout in their cars, who seem, in their entirety, to be inconsiderate little fuckwits.
