Alvor to Lagos - 25th October 2026
Unable to get a ride across the estuary and when I think on it, it is more fitting, more complete,to go around the Ribeira de Oxdiáxere and all its tributaries and on to Lagos. There were no great climbs or cliffs just a long slog, which I made a bit longer by routing back to the beach at Meia Praia so I could walk into Lagos along it.
It was lovely this morning moving along the banks of the river estuary with all the sea birds cawing and the waders out looking for breakfast. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the cold misery of the coming winter put aside. Even the hard miles on the busy road were fun, challenging myself to do those three miles in forty five minutes, though I needed the cool of a friendly football club café desperately after. Then the trek down to the beach, and the last long - avoid the waves - stretch into Lagos and the end.
