Praia de São Rafael to Vale de Engenhos - 22nd October 2026
More cliffs today. I've forgotten how exhausting it is climbing up and down fifty metres every hundred or so, sometimes with deeply scary bits (to me). The Grand Hotel Vilalara no longer allows pedestrian access and I was shown off the property by a bouncer who cared not a whit about the extra miles but did offer a path to the beach that would make a ibex baulk. Round the country roads I went after retracing my footsteps for a K.
Bit cooler today, though, at 24.
Another hard day. And I have to accept that the next two will be much of the same. Remembering back to the last time I was in Portugal, on the Fisherman's, I recall that it sometimes took ten hours to do fifteen miles, so I should expect the same sort of rate for the next few days.
