Isle of Wight
3rd - 9th September 2026
Traffic accidents aside, I managed to get to the check-in desk with the obligatory forty five minutes to spare. However, at the only open station in front of me was a Nigerian family with a dozen bags, some no more that canvas sacks bulging with F knows what. Ten minutes later, when I got to face her, she immediately said no dice. A small moan and she phoned through to check if they'd still sort my bag and, when that was a yes, through I went - checked-in. Banged through security and on to the gate - last one, final, final call. Handed my passport and boarding card over only to be told, 'This isn't your passport, sir.' Fuckity, fuck, I'd brought the Granddaughter's (she's three). Bag hurled off plane and me crawling back up to check-in to get rebooked, her complaining that I'd got her in trouble. Not my useless peepers. missy.
Anyway, off to do the Isle of Wight coastal path now that the schools have gone back. Hopefully the weather will improve from the wet and miserable state it's in at min. But it is an unusual choice for me. An inveterate reverse snob, I simply abhor most English accents, especially the Southern ones which will abound down there. Maybe they'll grow on me.
